The documents as a single PDF, the full name of the person to be served, the address, and any deadline the service has to meet. If a proceeding is already on foot, the file number helps. Hard copies can be collected from your office or chambers instead.
Anything you have about the person or the address. Vehicle, working hours, who else lives there, whether they are already avoiding contact, and whether there is any history of aggression. It usually decides whether the first attempt lands, and it is the difference between one attendance and four.
I will tell you when I am attending at the point I acknowledge the instruction. Urgent work is taken on where the timeframe is realistic. If a deadline cannot be met I will say so up front rather than after the fact.
You get the same record either way, and it is the evidence an application for substituted service is built on. Up to three attempts at the one address sit inside the service fee, and any further attendances are charged and agreed with you first.
